A very common feature among toy collectors is the presence of a theme to the type of toys they collect. They are not just random toys stored away but like stamps, coins, these are collected in a very systematic way. Common items that make up toy collections are Barbie dolls, a huge favorite due to the sheer popularity, action figures, the equivalent with the male population and also jacks-in-the-box, which have somewhat declined due to a decline in their production. In fact, doll collecting is so popular it is in an entirely different category of collecting.
Most toy collectors started out when they were young and in accordance with that the toys they collect are also the classic ones like toy cars, miniature houses as well as do it yourself models. Apart from the emotional value and collector’s pride, such toy collections are also huge deposits of money. Donald Kaufman, a renowned toy collector, auctioned his toy collection of about seven thousand pieces with each piece going for an estimated two hundred dollars. This made much more than the amount that was actually spent.
Collecting of toys is not necessarily of the antique type. They could be new ones as well. If you are a toy collector, then make sure you organize what you collect. Also, the better the condition, the more the value of the toy is. Value your toys and treat them with respect.
